The Sacred Heart
So I finished 'The Listening Knots today and started polishing a piece of Somerset Alabaster, from here I drilled some holes and then a cup of tea and a few thoughts, I decided to put the alabaster on a piece of charred wood and make some wooden dowels to hold it in place, the alabaster already reminded me of a heart and the black stakes that held it in place gave it a medieval feel, I then decided to add the beaten copper array ala the rays on renaissance painting and sculptures, this now had a feel of a relic and having watched the programme on Van Hagens crucifiction. Nothing here was planned it just evolved, improv sculpture!

The Listening Knots
Another private commission, this time larch, larch with knots. A formal shape, tapering obelisk with the organic randomness in the relationship of the formation of knots within the wood, these I have decided to highlight by dishing the knots creating parabolic bowls. The whole piece will be charred, the burning will make prominent the grain in the wood. The piece will be vertical when sited and stands at 7 feet tall.
